What to cook with what you have
Most fridges can make dinner. The trick is to think in formulas instead of recipes: a structure that works with whatever vegetables, protein and carbs are around.
Eight formulas that use almost anything
- Frittata or omelette: eggs plus any cooked or quick-cooking vegetables, cheese and herbs.
- Fried rice: day-old rice, an egg, soy sauce and whatever vegetables or meat are left.
- Pasta with a pan sauce: garlic and oil, tomatoes, greens, a little cheese.
- Soup: onion, any vegetables, stock or water, blended or chunky.
- Tray bake: chopped vegetables and a protein on one tray at 200 °C.
- Grain bowl: a grain, something crunchy, something creamy, a dressing.
- Quesadilla or toastie: bread or tortillas, cheese and leftovers.
- Curry: onion, garlic, spices, tomatoes or coconut milk, vegetables and beans.
Start with what needs using
Look for what will spoil first, such as soft vegetables, open dairy and cooked rice, and build the meal around it. In PantryChef, star those ingredients and they come first in every suggestion.
