How to waste less food at home
A typical household throws away a lot of food it paid for. These habits cut that down without much effort.
Before you shop
- Check the fridge first (a quick photo helps).
- Plan two or three dinners, not seven.
- Write a list and stick to it.
Storing
- Keep the fridge at 5 °C or below.
- First in, first out: move older food to the front.
- Freeze bread, cooked rice and leftovers you won't eat in two days.
Cooking
- Have a "use it up" night each week.
- Turn wilting vegetables into soup, sauce or a frittata.
- Cook the right amount: use the servings setting in PantryChef.
